Lily Update

Lily went to Dr Neff on Friday and he said she looks great. I was almost on with the weight. She weighs 9 lbs 14 oz and 22.3 inches long. About the same weight as Jena at this point, just shorter. The result is those cute little fat rolls that we had seen on other peoples babies, just not on Jena. Her hair is still dark and we wonder if it will get lighter. I'm okay with a brunette but Roger thinks the Williams blonde gene will kick it.

Planes, Train and Automobiles

We had quite a week as we traveled to and from Denver for my cousin's wedding. This was us at the airport in Fayetteville getting ready to leave. This also marks Lily's first plane trip. For our seasoned traveler, Jena, this marks her 3rd vacation in which she traveled by plane. Roger was quick to point out to Jena that he was 18 before he ever set foot on a plane when the Army sent him to California. I was 12 for my first when I went to Florida to visit my uncle and cousins. So, the girls are way ahead of us on traveling.

Jena was very excited about flying in an airplane. This is the first time she got her own seat and she loved looking out the window and seeing all the things below us.

We were quite a site walking through the airport with the kids and all of our stuff.

Here we are on the train in the Denver airport. Very tired from a cross country trip. Jena loved riding on the train. I think that was her favorite part of the trip.

At least Lily could get a nap. I wish I had gotten a picture of the minivan we rented. It was cool. I thought we may not get it because the woman at the rental place kept trying to give us an SUV. The conversation went something like this (keep in mind she was probably about 25)

Her "What did you reserve with us"
Me "A Dodge minivan"
Her "Ug, why?"
Me "I have 2 kids, 5 people total." I pointed to my family, Lily clearly in a car seat.
Her "Oh, I see. Would you like a Suburban for a little more?"
Me "No, thank you. Just the van please."
Her "I'll give it to you for the same price."
Me "A Suburban is really big and I'm not from Denver. So, I'd like the van I know that I feel comfortable driving."
Her "How about an H3?"
Me "That has less seats than the minivan."
Her "It seats 5"
Me "Not with car seats it doesn't"
Her "Oh, you need car seats?"
At this point I want to shout "Look, you single childless person. I want the MINIVAN!" She finally did give it to us, but she sure didn't want to. I'm glad we got the van with gas prices as they are. We actually only used 11 gallons of gas with all the driving we did that weekend.

2 months

Hard to believe it has been two months already. Lily has her checkup next week, but I can say that she is already 10 lbs! She even has little fat rolls on her legs! That is something Jena never had as a baby. I'll post her vitals next week after I take her to the doctor.

Greetings for the Mile High City!

We made it to Denver in one piece. Our first flight was delayed by an hour, but we made our connection in Atlanta and to Denver on time. It was rough flying with 2 kids and the flight was very bumpy. Jena was ok for the first flight, very excited even. But that wore off after 30 minutes of turbulence. But we are here and I am so happy to be able to see my family. We don't make it out west much, so this is a very special treat. And it was awesome to get to the hotel too and find a care package waiting for us, complete with chocolate chip cookies! Thanks, Aunt Patty!

Today Roger is golfing with the Uncs, he is such a good sport. And we are going to an aquarium and do a little shopping. I foolishly left my jacket on the kitchen table in NC and its a bit chilly here! And of course, tomorrow is the wedding. I have pictures from the airport I will post soon.

2 1/2 years

Jena is 2 and a half today. Hard to believe, so much has happened in such a short time. She is practically a grown up! Everyday brings new surprises, and we love every minute of it.

Ketchup on everything

Today for lunch we had chicken nuggets and mac & cheese, a favorite around here. As I was waiting for the chicken to cool I put the mac & cheese on the plate. Then I got out the ketchup and drinks and put them on the table.

Jena said "I want ketchup, Mommy."
I said, "The ketchup is for the chicken which you don't have."
Jena said "I need it for my Mac & Cheese."

I ignored the plea and went and got the chicken nuggets and put them on her plate. After getting her drink I put ketchup on her plate and sat down to each my lunch. I looked up to see Jena pushing the mac & cheese around trying to get it on the fork. Of course, some ending up in the ketchup and she proceeded to eat them both together. I had to laugh when I saw that because I flashed to someone else doing the same thing, my dad!

My dad ate ketchup on a lot of things people would find strange. The big ones I remember were mac & cheese and eggs. But I had forgotten that until just now. So, somewhere in the great beyond, I'm sure he is laughing at me and saying "There is nothing wrong with that."

Now it is our turn

We watched Louisiana last weekend, this weekend is the Carolinas turn. Hanna is on her way. The coasts of South and North Carolina are under a Hurricane watch. My sister-in-law who lives on the NC coast is heading this way in the morning to spend the weekend and wait out the storm. They say we are in for some rain and wind here, but other than that we should be fine.

All smiles

Lily has been smiling for a few weeks, but we have had a hard time getting a picture of it. So, here is what I finally got. I have to say, the one of her in the blue dress reminds me of one of my at that age in front of the Christmas tree. If I find it I will post it.

First Day of School

Today was Jena's first day back at Preschool at St John's. She is in the 2 year-old room with her friends from last year Piper, Brady, Quinn, Drew and Gus. She has been excited all week. She wanted to go yesterday, but they were not open yet. She did very well today walking right in and playing with the Play-doh. She painted today and played outside. I was worried she'd want Lily to stay, but I let her take Share Bear and she was ok. So my friend and fellow mom, Rebecca, and I went and enjoyed an Emancipation Breakfast!
